Vanamahatsava celebrated

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: The Arunachal Paryavaran Rakshak Sangathan (APRS) has celebrated the 62nd Vanamahotsava at Rajiv Gandhi Polytechnic college Itanagar.  Around 800 trees have been planted at college campus by APRS members and staffs of Polytechnic college to mark the occasion.

The Sangathan, expressed its gratitude to social forest ranger Taba Tani for providing tree  saplings and technical guidance and also lauded the principal of  the Polytechnic college  for his logistic support in tree plantation.   Society appealed to the people  for preservation of environment to save the mother earth from global warming.

 

Association for early completion of road

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: All Panggi Students’ Association (APSA) has appealed to the authorities concerned for early completion of the Geku-Katan PMGSY road.  Undue delay in construction of the road created lot of problem for the people of Geku-Katan, the Association said. It further claimed that quality works has not been maintained while implementing the road project. The retaining wall and drainage system are not constructed as per norms mentioned in the tender, it added.

 

Training on maternal health held

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: A training on maternal health was conducted by the district health society on 28thJune at district hospital, Khonsa. Dr.K.Perma, DRCHO while welcoming the trainees and the resource persons, threw light on the importance of the training and exhorted the  trainees to take the  training seriously and utilize the skill acquired during the programme for effective functioning of health services in the district.

The resource persons Dr. M.T.Zaiji, MO, Lazu and Dr (Miss Sikha Saikia MO, Longding conducted the training successfully. The training programme was attended by M.O, Borduria and ANMs from various PHCs and Sub-center of the district.

 

Ultimatum to Govt

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: Arunachal Pradesh Abotani Clans Youth Organization (APATCYO) has given the state Government 7 days ultimatum to re-arrest Sanjiv Tana, one of the accused in grenade planting case.

It also demanded  to drop Minister Atum Welly from the state cabinet till the investigation is over and cancel alleged illegal appointment made to the post of Tax and Excise Inspector. In case of failing to fulfill its demand, the association said, would launch democratic movement.

 

Dree at Hong

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: MLA cum Parliamentary secretary, forest and environment, Kumar Waii would attend the inaugural function of the 22nd Hong Dree Festival celebration as chief guest at Hanoko, Hong village in Lower Subansiri district on July 5. The festival will be celebrated with two-day programme on July 5 and 6.   

 

NMWC cautions against forceful collection of donation

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: Nirjuli Market Welfare Committee (NMWC) cautioned that action would be taken against those who collect “donations” forcefully from traders and shopkeepers within Nirjuli market area.

NMWC in a release said that some people in groups are collecting money in the name of union/NGO within Nirjuli market area in total violation of the district administration’s earlier order banning donation. It asked all traders and shopkeepers not to entertain any kind of donation by any group in the name of union or NGOs without prior information of the committee.

 

National Youth Convention

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: The District Presidents and State Office Bearers of all over the country will participate in the National Youth Convention, which is being held on 16th July, Saturday at Mavlankar Hall, Rafi Marg, New Delhi from 1:30 P.M onwards. State President NCP Ngurang Pinch and Incharge President NYC Arunachal Pradesh Taba Tagam will attend the programme and lead the delegates from Arunachal Pradesh. Union Minister Sharad Pawar will inaugurate the function.

 

Traffic regulation

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: All Puroik Youth Association (APYA) has appealed to the traffic cell to deploy traffic personnel at C-sector tinali near K V No 1, Naharlagun during rush hours. The Tinali witness very chaotic situation during school hours (8 am to 3 pm), the Association said while adding that traffic regulation in this point is need of the hour to avoid any unwanted accidents involving school children.

 

Milk rate rejected

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner has rejected the milk rates fixed by Papum Pare Milk Producers’ Union (PPMPU) saying that the decision was taken arbitrarily without getting approval of the district administration.

The rate fixed by PPMPU would not be enforced unless it get due approval from the district administration, the Deputy Commissioner said in an official release.

 

KGBV developmental meet

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: Arunachal Pradesh Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Welfare Association conducted its developmental meeting here yesterday.

During the meeting the house discussed various problems faced by the 36 KGBV like teacher quarters, boundary wall, water supply and enhancement of KGBV staff salary and resolved to approach chief minister, education minister and State Project Director, SSA Rajya Mission Itanagar on the issue.

 

Supply sufficient APL Rice

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: All Kimin Students’ Union while briefing the grievances of people due to shortage of APL rice in the area, appealed to the Deputy Commissioner, Papum Pare District, EAC Kimin and concerned authority to initiate immediate step for sufficient supply of APL Rice at Kimin, Kakoi, Durgha Dafla, Lower Jumi, Hawa Camp and Lichi.

 

APSTS booking counter open at Banderdewa

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services, Itanagar has opened a sub-booking counter cum JnNURM city bus service monitoring cell at Banderdewa Police Check Gate today.

The counter was inaugurated by State Transport Services, General Manager Repo Ronya.

The sub-booking counter will also provide information on bus services by the department to various destinations.

ITANAGAR: WRD and Tourism Minister Pema Khandu asked all HoDs of Tawang to expedite all on-going developmental works in the district and also furnish a brief report on all such works.

Anshu gets Young Indian Leader Award

New Delhi, Jul 1: Anshu Jamsenpa who carved a niche in the mountaineering history was awarded the Young Indian Leader Award today. Instituted by IBN18 in association with IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited (IRB), the award aims at celebrating the achievements of the nation’s youth for their commendable contributions that have aided in bringing a wind of change and pride to the nation.

Jamsenpa, one of the Young Indian leaders from Arunachal Pradesh, who created a niche in her field by becoming the first woman mountaineer in the world to reach the summit of Mt. Everest twice in the same season, was awarded by Chief Guest Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in a glittering ceremony held in the capital.

The 32-year-old, mother of two, from Bomdila successfully scaled the world’s highest peak to create a spectacular record with grit and stamina.  

Speaking about the initiative, Rajdeep Sardesai, Editor-in-Chief, CNN-IBN, IBN7 & IBN Lokmat, said, “The aim of this initiative is to acknowledge the commendable work being done by the youth of our nation for the betterment of the society. We salute these Young Indian Leaders.”

Elitism cannot move forward the state: Siram

District coordination meeting on educational development

PASIGHAT, Jul 1: The state can’t move forward if it is limited to elite class of people. This was stated by Education Minister Bosiram Siram while addressing in a District Coordination Meeting with Principals, Vice-Principals, Headmasters, APOs, BRCCs convened under the chairmanship of DC-cum-DPD Onit Panyang to exchange experiences of RTE, SSA and RMSA here yesterday at the conference hall of Siang Guest House.

He spoke at length about the various undergoing changes at present to give a major boost to educational sector. Terming it as a revamp, he told how he envisions Arunachal becoming a knowledge centre in the decade to come. RTE is not going to bear fruits tomorrow, many hurdles have to be overcome for effective implementation of the Act as the state doesn't have the necessary "wherewithal & infrastructure" right now, he added. Siram however said the feedback received so far has been very positive and underlined the needs of teachers training which has specific clauses under RTE to improve teaching techniques.

Earlier the Deputy Commissioner Onit Panyang stated that good results depend on teaching communities and they should be more serious, dedicated, sincere and hard working while teaching and leading the future generation for a noble mission. He cautioned that absenteeism and wrong deal in Mid-Day-Meal would not be allowed under his supervision. He urged to obey govt orders every time and appealed not to take any political help on transfer/posting issue adding that stringent action would be taken against the defaulters.  He stressed on proper and correct furnishing of data to get necessary funds from the center as well as from the state govt.

The DDSE T Talom informed that the actual motive of the meeting was to find out the problems and discuss issues pertaining to the implementation of RTE and other central flagship programs rightly in the district.

Doctors day observed

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: The Arunachal Pradesh Doctors Association (APDA) today conducted CME Programme at the Seminar Hall of the State Hospital, Naharlagun to commemorate the Doctors’ day.

The Director of Health Services Dr. K. Nishing attended the CME Programme as Chief Guest and Dr. D. Bagra, DMO Upper Subansiri as the Guest of Honour. Dr. K. Nishing in his speech lauded the role of Doctors in the service of humanity and expressed hope that they will continue the same.

 President of APDA Dr. Mika Umpo spoke on the purpose of observing ‘Doctors’ day’ in which patients or community express gratitude to the Physician. He also said that Doctor's Day is also a significant day for doctors themselves as well as it provides them with an opportunity to revitalize and rededicate themselves.  

Dr. T. Kaki, Nodal Officer ART Centre and Dr. R. Doye, Chairman of the Ethical Committee of the Arunachal Pradesh Medical Council (APMC) delivered lectures on Post-Exposure Prophylaxis an overview and Medical Ethics respectively.  Many Senior Doctors from the State Hospital  and Dr. D.  Bagra, DMO Upper Subansiri District and Dr. Mahesh Chai SMO Daporizo District hospital attended the CME programme.

Remembering the founder of Indian Medical Council, the legendary Bharat Ratna Dr Bidhan Chandra Ray, the East Siang Doctors Association observed Doctors’ Day today at the newly shifted library of the General Hospital, Pasighat.

To pay homage to the great physician and planner Dr. Roy and to mark the occasion the Education Minister Bosiram Siram and medical fraternities participated in a tree plantation program conducted by Jt Director Health Service Dr. K. Lego in the hospital premises.

The minister took stock of various developments in the health sector while Medical Supdt. Dr. Onik Moyong spoke on various hurdles and achievements of the hospital.

 

Mobile Office of DA at Baririjo

Daporijo, Jul 1: Adhering to its aim of making the administration more accessible to the public of the district, the District Administration of Upper Subansiri conducted its 6th Mobile Office at Baririjo on 30th June. The Mobile office was inaugurated by Minister (Home, Rural Development & Panchayat Raj)Takar Marde, in the presence of DC A. Abhayankar, SP A. Bitin, HoDs, Doctors of District Hospital, Administrative Officers, staff and the public of the area. Takar Marde, while addressing the gathering, appreciated the efforts of the Deputy Commissioner in conducting the Mobile offices for the convenience of the villagers living far away from the district headquarter. He also advised the government servants to stay in their place of posting and serve the local community.

DC Abhayankar explained to the public the necessity of mobile office in a district with such hard and hilly terrain and told the people to take full advantage of it. He also promised to continue the mobile office in other circle headquarters of the district in the future.

During the mobile office 62 PRCs, 69 ST certificates, 2 Duplicate G.B. Certificates, 32 Learner Driving Licenses, 60 Birth Certificates were issued and 25 Gun Licenses were renewed. The public also benefited from the mobile health camp led by Dr. N. Geyi, DRCHO, District Health Society  &NRHM, Daporijo. 214 patients were examined by the team of doctors of the District Hospital, Daporijo.

DDSE O. Panor inspected the school at Baririjo, reviewed its performance and provided teaching material to the school.

The PHE department created awareness on health, hygiene and sanitation through models and demos. (DIPRO)

 

Massive landslide on CK road, villages cut off

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: The Changlang-Khonsa road more popularly known as CK road which is the life-line for  Khela, Bunting, Lamsa, Katang, Lanwang and other villages in CK road belt has been cut off from the district headquarters since 25th June. A massive landslide between RWD complex and Veterinary farm has blocked the road, creating great hardships to the villagers. The landslide was triggered by incessant rain over the last few weeks. To compound the miseries of the villagers another road block has occurred between Lamsa and New Lanwang village about 25 km from Khonsa. This time it was due to huge trees falling on the road in the wake of a heavy storm.

Nokjo Wanghop, president of All Tutsa Welfare Society, Tirap-Changlang said that the scenario is grim adding that it would be a Herculean task to clear the massive debris on the road. He further said that the blockade was not just on one spot but on a long stretch of the road which may take weeks to clear it.

 

AAPSU urges Govt to find a mechanism to solve Thakur issue

ANSU to launch third phase of protest

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) urged the State Government to find a mechanism to solve the Pradeep Thakur issue amicably at the earliest.

Expressing its strong resentment over Govt.’s ‘dillydallying tactics’ adopted on the issue, AAPSU said that any further delay in resolving the burning issue might aggravate the situation.

“The Govt has failed to realize the gravity of the sensitive issue that is why it is not paying much interest on it,” AAPSU lamented.

It said that the present Government should emulate former chief minister late Dorjee Khandu, who always had a soft corner towards the students community in resolving any problems by sitting together.

Meanwhile, AAPSU said that it would discuss various pending issues in a meeting scheduled on July 5.

The All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) vowed to continue its fight against Pradeep Thakur till the justice is delivered.

ANSU said that the 3rd phase of the protest would be launched in all the Nyishi dominated areas very soon and at the appropriate time. The date and time of the protest will be decided after an executive body meeting, it said.  “Our demands have already been outlined and submitted to the State Government. But the State Government has failed to take any concrete action,” ANSU said.

“We are not against anyone. But we are against the people who has done extensive damage to the image of the entire Nyishi community by making derogatory remark,” ANSU said, and appealed to all to cooperate and support the Union for its movement for justice.

 

Team of HIV Communication Officers from North East to visit Tamil Nadu

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: To exchange and learn communication strategies as a cross cutting and integral intervention of all components of HIV and AIDS prevention, care, support and treatment programme, a team of Communication Officers from State AIDS Control Society of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura shall visit Tamil Nadu from July 4. Around fifteen HIV communication experts comprising of Deputy Directors (IEC), Consultant Mainstrea-ming, Consultant Youth Affair and other IEC officials from the four North East States shall be led by PhungreisoVaru, Regional Communication Officer from BBC-World Service Trust, the technical and creative agency supported to NACO on HIV and AIDS campaign.   This is a part of the annual action plan approved by National AIDS Control Organization for IEC Division to undertake this activity.  “The team who are visiting Tamil Nadu are pretty excited about the trip," said Varu and added “I believed, this kind of exposure visit will not only provoke and motivate the officials but also provide a roadmap towards more effective and efficient communication programmes operation and service delivery in northeast”. During the six days programme, the HIV/AIDS communication officers from North East shall share success story in the field of mass media, research and advocacy, social mobilization and mainstreaming in HIV/AIDS prevention and control with AIDS Prevention and Control Society of Chennai which shall provide technical support to the visiting official. The importance of monitoring and evaluation, management, financial and coordination issues shall also be addressed as part of learning during the trip.

 

Fake Additional Deputy Commissioner arrested

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: Banderdewa Police led by OC PS Banderdewa SI SK Dev arrested one Md. Hanifa Ali s/o Md. Hadrat Ali, Ahmedpur, Bihpuria Assam for indulging in issue of forged Inner Line Permit. He has been in the business of issuing fake Inner Line Permit for last 2-3 years in the name of Additional Deputy Commissioner Yupia.  He used to charge Rs.500/- per permit to people intending to enter Arunachal Pradesh through Banderdewa and Gumto check gates. It is suspected that there are many more such fake Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner who are involved in issuing of fake ILP to outsiders. A case u/s 468/471/473 IPC has been registered at PS Banderdewa.

 

The skyrocketing prices

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: The rise in the prices of cooking gas, diesel and kerosine has evoked widespread resentment all over India.

Demanding immediate roll back of this price hike, protest rallies were organized  all over India by opposition BJP and various other political parties.

As a result of these stiff oppositions, the West Bengal Government has waived cess to cut LPG prices. It reduced cooking gas prices by Rs.16 per cylinder. Delhi government also announced a marginal decrease in diesel prices while LPG cylinders will be cheaper for the poor.  

In Arunachal Pradesh, no such protest rally by any organization or political parties has been witnessed. The BJP, as usual, protested the price hike by issuing a press release in local media criticizing the Centre for hiking the prices of petroleum products.

Could the people of Arunachal Pradesh expect any positive respond from the State Government to reduce the price hike atleast for the benefit of the poor? Is there any scope or possibility to reduce the price hike?

There is a popular adage that if there is a will there is way.

Infact, the hike of Rs.50 per cylinder of cooking gas in one go has hit the common man hard. Majority of the households have to cut the corners to meet the both ends.

Presently, cooking gas is being sold at Rs.420 per cylinder in Itanagar which is five rupees higher than the actual price after the hike.

On the other hand, petrol and diesel price increase has already pushed up the transportation cost while the increase in the price of kerosene would be an added burden to the poor.

Moreover, the soaring prices of all other essential commodities have made the twin city of Itanagar and Naharlagun a hell to live for the poor.

Last year, the district administration, in an order, had fixed the prices of vegetables and made it mandatory to display the price list in every shop/vendor.

Infact, it was an unpractical move on the part of the administration. Every vendor in the twin city had vehemently protested the order because the prices of such items fluctuate from day to day depending upon demand, supply and production --the simple economic model of price determination in a market.

But it is also true that some unscrupulous vendors here are selling their items at unreasonably high price giving lame excuse like high transportation charge etc.

It is amusing to learn that different vendors/shopkeepers charge different rates for same items in same market area. There is no uniformity in the prices of vegetable items in Itanagar.

“Some rich people are encouraging the price hike. Those so called rich people exuding their status never ask the vendors about the prices of the items they bought,” a visibly upset Govt servant, who requested not to be named, told this reporter.

“Until and unless people are conscious and start protesting against the unhealthy trend of both the customers and vendors, nothing would happen,” he said.

Who is to blame for this? Would the common man get respite from this skyrocketing commodity price? Is there any solution?

Mama led ANYA for fresh mandate

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: Taring Mama led All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) in its executive body meeting held here today unanimously decided to go for fresh mandate. However, the schedule for fresh mandate and members of the election committee shall be notified later.

Regarding reporter Pradeep Thakur issue, ANYA led by Mama demanded the Nyishi legislators to produce Thakur before traditional court of Nyishi community.

It further said that ANYA does not take any responsibility for opposing the ANSU bandh call by stray organization in the name of ANYA. “The persons or organizations using the name of ANYA and going against the interest of the community are already declared anti-Nyishi and anti-ANYA”, the Association said in a release.

Meanwhile, ANYA District Unit Committee (ADUC) headed by its chairman Kumar Tajo also opined that  reporter Thakur must be produced before Nyishi court. It appealed to the Nyishi legislators and the community to works towards logical solution to the issue taken up by student union.

While extending solidarity with ANSU movement, ADUC further informed that it has no knowledge about the decision to oppose ANSU bandh by an organization in the name of ANYA  or did not acknowledge such decision.

 

Achung led ANYA justifies its stand

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: Justifying its opposition to 36-hours Capital bandh called by All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) recently, Achung Yumlam led group of All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) claimed that the “decision was taken only at the NES and ANSU level without intimating ANYA in particular and other like minded people of the Nyishi community as a whole.” It is mandatory for Nyishi organizations like ANSU and NES to obtain opinion of all other Nyishi organizations on the basis of social sanction before taking up such sensitive and serious issue,  Yumlam said in a release today.

Expressing its sentiment about the reporter Pradeep Thakur issue, the release further claimed that in the present scenario the community does not stand united for sharing the views of each other.

The release further said that being the oldest organization, ANYA has moral right to participate and share opinion while taking up official resolution in community affair and said that its opposition to bandh was not politically motivated.

ANYA is also equally responsible  for betterment of the  community, the release said and appealed to NES and ANSU to share opinion before taking sensitive issue like Pradeep Thakur fiasco.

It further opined that bandh call, which hampers the common  people, labourer and most particularly the  small traders of Nyishi community who are selling their local vegetable products for livelihood, is not solution to  the problem.

Instead of bandh call, there are other ways like dialogue involving Govt and Nyishi legislators to nab Thakur, the release said and suggested peaceful dharna, procession and hunger strike at important places in New Delhi and submission of memorandum to union home minister on Pradeep Thakur issue.

 

HM Visits Police Stations at W/Siang

Aalo, Jul 1 : The Home Minister Takar Marde was on a whirlwind visit to police stations of Tirbin, Basar and Likabali on 30th June last. He was accompanied by MLA Gojen Gadi, MLA Jomde Kena, West Siang Deputy Commissioner Amjad Tak, SP Aalo and Daporijo.

Interacting with the administrators and police, Marde said that existence of a peaceful civil society cannot be thought of without administration and police and both vital wings of Government should go hand in hand to deliver good services to people. The men in uniform should work vigorously to contain growing crimes, law and order with zeal and commitment.

The Minister said that proper policing is of paramount importance today and all his visits are essential to have first hand knowledge of status and functioning of police stations in the various parts of the state. He expressed his satisfaction over the functioning of all police stations and assured to look into few need based demands of officer In charge of Basar Police Station.

The Minister also visited Likabali Police Station and addressed police and administrators. (DIPR)

 

Central Dree food festival, cultural competitions begin

ZIRO, Jul 1: The cultural competition and food festival organized as part of the 44th Central Dree Festival got off to a colourful start here today.

Inaugurating the programme, Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner Nila Mohanan said that festival is an occasion to showcase one’s rich cultural traditions and share the joy and happiness among the people.

Extending her wishes to the people of the district for a happy Dree, the DC prayed to almighty to bestow peace, prosperity and bumper crop during the year.

While praising the community, she said that Apatanis are very hard-working and sincere. The DC hoped that the main function of central Dree festival slated for July five would be a grand success.

Society demands renovation of mini hydel, posting of SI

ITANAGAR, Jul 1:  Expressing resentment over frequent breakdown in power supply in Tato  town for last one and half months, Boh-Aao Welfare Society (BAWS) has urged the executive engineer, hydro power department Aalo to replace the  old alternator of Tato Mini hydel. The old alternator of the hydel is the root cause of frequent power failure, the Society said and urged the engineer to replace the alternator with new model within 15 days.  

Meanwhile, in a separate release Boh-Aao Welfare Society has demanded posting of sub-inspector with required personnel in border out-post (BOP) Tato within 15 days.

In a letter addressed to West Siang Superintendent of Police, the Society claimed that in absence of a commanding officer at BOP, the police personnel are not performing their duty and many of them are staying out of station.

Society further said that a Sub-inspector is urgently required in the BOP in order to prevent many unwanted criminal activities like dacoity and other criminal activities in Tato area.

Moreover, a huge labour force is likely to penetrate into the circle with the arrival of many hydropower developers, the Society said and added that under such circumstances Tato BOP needs more teeth to tackle law and order situation.  

 

SBI celebrates its foundation day

Itanagar, Jul 1: The Ganga Branch of State Bank of India (SBI) observed SBI foundation day today.

To commemorate the occasion, the Bank official led by its Branch Manager Bengia Tabb distributed Sweets and fruits to the indoor and our door patients at Heema Hospital, Itanagar this morning.

The Programme was attended by the Chairman of Heema Hospital Dr. Byabang Rana along with team of Doctors. Rana expressed his gratitude to the Bank officials for distributing fruits to the patients on the occasion of Bank Day and the Doctors Day.

Tabb, advised the bank staff to rededicate themselves to the service of the bank and its customers.

He informed that besides its regular activities the Bank has also undertook many community based services and adopted many girl children through the branches across the State under the “SBI Girl Child Adoption scheme”.

 

Workshop on sustainable sanitation & management of drinking water

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: The work shop on sustainable sanitation & management of drinking water  was held under the Chairmanship of W.Lowang, Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman, DWSC, Tirap District, Khonsa.

The work shop was attended by the Secretary, PHED, Director, CCDU, PHED, SE, PHE Circle, Miao, Zilla Parished Chairperson, ADC cum DPDO, Khonsa ,all ZPMs, Anchal Chairpersons and other PRI leaders,NGOs and HoDs of Tirap District and staff of P.H.E.D. Khonsa.

In his speech the Deputy Commissioner cum Members Secretary (DWSC), Khonsa informed the gathering that at present it is not possible for immediate re-verification of the APL, BPL list, because the list has already been in the Ministry web site. However, he expresses to correct it by conducting Gram Sabhas for verifying the APL, BPL family in the next updating of the list.

The Secretary, PHED, Tomi Ete presented a power point presentation for implementation of this scheme in various districts in Arunachal Pradesh. He also informed the house that various schemes under TSC for elimination of defecation of public places by constructing Individual House Hold Latrine (IHHL) in every BPL house hold, Anganwadi centers, Schools toilet & Community sanitary complex. He also directed the Engineers concerned to maintain the work culture. Lastly he thanks all the members in this house for attending this workshop.

The Zilla Parishad Chairperson Rongnai Maham expressed his displeasure regarding the APL, BPL list of the district and requested the concerned authority for re-evaluation of the same immediately to avoid difficulty in implementing the Individual House Hold Latrine (IHHL) in the villages.

Earlier in his address Er. J.G. Bhagat, Executive Engineer cum Member Secretary, DWSC, Tirap District, Khonsa. He also presented power point presentation regarding the progress of work under Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) in Tirap District.

The Secretary Disha(NGO) in his speech  thanked the P.H.E .Department for conducting  such workshop in Tirap District. He also presented power point presentation regarding the activities of Disha(NGO) in this district.

The S.E. P.H.E. & W.S. Circle, Miao  expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the progress of Individual House Hold Latrine(IHHL) in this district and directed the concerned authority to improve the work of IHHL immediately for completing scheme within the time .

The Director CCDU, PHED, Itanagar also presented a power point presentation regarding the activities of (IEC) in Arunachal Pradesh. He  explained how to handle the portable Field Test Kits for identifying the water quality problems of various drinking water sources in the village level. He also mentioned that Panchayats and NGOs are in the front line of implementation of the scheme in the village level.

 

Sri Sri Yoga Ayurveda Health Camp in Wakro

WAKRO, Jul 1: The Art of Living conducted Sri Sri Yoga & Ayurveda Health camp in Wakro under the guidance and initiative of Rama Maa. Yogacharya Vaidyaraj Sri Sri Patanjali Mishra from the AoL, Banglore attended 200 patients. He also conducted Nadi Pariksha for the patients and advised them with necessary prescription. The ayurvedic medicines were mobilized from the AoL Guwahati centre with active support of Pawan Sharma. The ASSET rendered local support. Inaugurating the Health camp Col H S Chouhan, CO, 26 MLI lauded the AoL team for bringing Ayurveda to the doorsteps of the villagers. He opined that Ayurveda like in the olden times will immensely benefit people with proper and complete treatment. The CO 26 MLI also rendered all assistance requested by the ASSET for organizing the Health Camp. Dr. Patanjali Mishra conducted Eye Care camp for 28 people. ASSET also invited Dr Manishaa Thakkar from Mumbai to render consultation in Homeopathy. Dr. Manishaa attended 60 patients. She further provided free medicines to all her patients as her personal contribution. Dr Manishaa also administered 38 Cranio Sacral Therapies to people of the area.

 

Forum praises humanitarian efforts

ITANAGAR, Jul 1: The Parsi Parlo Educated Forum (PPEF) highly praised the North East India Committee on Relief and Development (NEICORD), Canadian Foodgrains Bank and Nyishi Baptsist Church Council for providing the much needed relief to the people affected by bamboo flowering in Kurung Kumey district.

The Forum said that the people of Koloriang, Damin, Parsi Parlo and Sarli have been crying for relief and rehabilitation fund since 2010. Although the Government has sanctioned Rs.50 Lakh for the affected people, the amount is yet not distributed among the affected villagers due to reason best known to them, it lamented.

A total of 3000 quintal rice, 12,000 salt and paddy seeds were distributed among the affected with each family getting 100 kg rice, 20 kg paddy seeds and 4 kg salt.

Meanwhile, Koloriang, Damin, Parsi-Parlo & Sarli Students’ Union also lauded Nyishi Baptsist Church Council for its humanitarian gesture. It further appealed the Kurung Kumey DC to pay heed to its memorandum submitted on June 1 last.

 

Death of a Grand Old Man

Itanagar, Jul 1: The Grand Old man of Dumporijo circle, Tate Bage Heche, 111 year old passed away for heavenly abode. Late Tate Bage Heche was born in 1900 to Late Pore Bage Heche at Gite Bage, of presently Dumporijo Circle, Upper Subansiri. This was informed by the Heche Welfare Society.

Tate Bage Heche was the only living examples of the extremely elderly Heche inhabitants of our times. He was a source of inspiration to the modern man of ways of living with the nature. Even at his age, he lived a life without any illness. He was a warrior of his times involved in end number inter-tribal wars and also known for settling various village feuds.

He was instrumental in negotiations with British govt. and also the Indian government during the Aching-Muri Incident of 1951 near Siyum circle, when innocents were held by the administration in releasing them. He was busy with village activities and served as GB and HGB but gave up the responsibilities to his younger’s by 1980s. He secured all the members of the society for having greater interaction among and with each other to bring peace, communal harmony and mutual understanding.

He is survived with his only wife Mrs Yaper Bage Heche, 2 brothers, 4 sons and 1 daughter, 19 Grand-Children and 2 Great-Grand Children.

His demise has created a vacuum in the society for everybody.

 

MUMII - MUMO

From two stand points we can summarize the meaning of “MUMII-MUMO”——one traditional and the other mythological.

In traditional sense “MUMII-MUMO means a title or name given to a young girl just to be married. As soon as the marriage is over she is given her marital title or name called “NELII”——mistress—— which she must retain till her last breathe. This is one special thing for the married girls among the GALOOS.

When there is a question of Mithun sacrifice on the occasion of marriage ceremony four or two numbers of wild Bamboo Brides are mythologically important for the house decoration, two each in the front and back side of the roof, of the house celebrating the marriage ceremony. Those Bamboo Brides are selected and collected ritually from among the wild bamboos mainly from ‘ENII’ group out of which the Healthiest, Lovliest——Choicest——ones are accepted as virgins as well as Holy ones. In this context, the title of “MUMII-MUMO” is awarded to those four Bamboo Brides——-‘NYAMEE’. In another way those are very well known as “LOOBU”——a choicest thing among the items mostly be needed during the celebration.

The selection and collection of “MUMII-MUMO” or Bamboo Brides must be done from Heavenly Garden-”YIRKU”——where there are various types of Holy, Pious Bamboos such as HEJO, HEPO, HENII, TABO, TAJIR are in plenty. This portion of the function is completed in mythological way.

As we know once ABO TANII had happened to visit heaven——DOONYI POOLO MOOKO——and got acquainted with ANYE MUMSI (MUMII/MUMDII); but that was not a planned programme, rather random and accidental one. It was TOGUU who knew the way to DOONYI POOLO MOOKO——heaven——and visited ANYE MUMSI (the Heavenly lady), with a purpose of marriage with her for himself. So, in the case of selection and collection of beautiful most, Lovely most and Healthiest “MUMII-MUMO” or Bamboo Bride (NYAMEE) from ‘YIRKU’—Heavenly Bamboo Garden——we must take the help of TOGUU who can escort us to the land of heaven. It is said, among the devils, physically, loveliest and healthiest one is TOGUU whose land is just in southward down side of TANII LAND.

At the request of NYIBU (Priest), performing the rituals of the Particular marriage ceremony, when TOGUU schedules for heaven first he escorts NYIBU to ‘YIRTE’——a first  stage——where NYIBU prohibits TOGUU from entering ‘YIRKU’ for some serious unholy sex sins of ‘TOGUU’ himself. From ‘YIRTE’, ‘YIRKU’  is located just a little beyond from where the Four (4) Bamboo Brides——MUMII-MUMO are selected and collected by the NYIBU (Priest) on the basis of best ones from all angles.

When NYIBU returns from ‘YIRKU’ along with the Four (4) Bamboo Brides——-‘MUMII-MUMO’ (NYAMEE——young bamboo girls) TOGUU is asked to join him at KOPUU KOLIK GE MOOBAA——Mithun sacrificial place (alter) via ‘GIIKU’—a way in southwestern direction. NYIBU himself comes down along with the Four Bamboo girls by the short-cut——MOOBAA——he was escorted to ‘YIRTE’. On meeting, at KOPUU KOLIK GE MOOBAA, TOGUU is again highly praised of his rich possessions of beautiful green pastures and healthy luxuriant grasses and plants——TAPII, TAJA, ENCHI SIIKAA, YADUK YAAK——for cattle at his locality. NYIBU appeases  TOGUU with his sweet statements that his land is full of lives in accordance with rich vegetation and healthy favourable climate round the year, well rounded fence from all sides and free from dangerous wild animals and, so is the attribution of his land ——TOI TOGUU GE,  MINTE GE  LUURAA——which is the only safest place for the Mithuns. The same pacification is done to the Mithuns too in mythological way. This way the Mithuns are sent to the TOI TOGUU GE, MINTE LUURAA —— compound of TOGUU.

Out of the marriage system of the GALOOS two things——cardinal points——come to us. One is ANYE MUMSI’S refusal of TOGUU’S marriage proposal and her promise not to get herself remarried with anybody, but remain as the wife of ABO TANII though she departed him long ago. Secondly, on good advice of his wife ANYE MUMSI/MUMII, ABO TANII had to accept his own daughter, NIISI, as the only wife on maturity. This is a strong determination on the part of a father like ABO TANII in the beginning of a family system in prehistoric era in place of a society. This is completely a rare case as the order was imposed from outside——from his wife, ANYE MUMSI——in order to put a check upon ABO TANII for the matters relating to sex desires and save him from sex sins.

The mythological meaning of the Bamboo bride is that the Bamboo virgin once married to the house, celebrating the ceremony, is final. In the same manner once a young boy and a young girl are united is first and last as in the case of ABO TANII and NIISI. With reference to MUMII-MUMO, to have too many wives at a time is anti-social, Anti-Abotani. It is not desirable and source of all problems and troubles within and outside the family. This we learn from ABO TANII, the symbolic figure of all the GALOO Men folk. The sacrifice and pledge of ANYE MUMSI AND NIISI the MOTHER of all the descendants of TANII GROUP are fundamental high ideals for the GALOO Girls and Women alike. A good move forward

Dear Editor,

I would like to express my pleasure and views regarding the reintroduction of PG courses in Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat from the next academic session. In fact it’s a great move on the part of the state govt. to reintroduce PG courses in JNC which deserves appreciation and is likely to redress the problems of the students at large who wants to pursue PG courses and was a long pending demand of the people of the state. After various episodes of corruption charges and immoral activities dominating the state dailies and the room discussions this news of PG courses reintroducing in JNC has come as a great relief for the people of the state.

The intake capacity of Rajiv Gandhi University has been very minimal in recent past mounting number of students applying for PG course who ultimately got deprived. The role and initiations of State Education Minister  Bosiram Siram and the Principal, JNC  Tayek Talom is worth mentioning here. This is a great leap to revamp the education sector in the state and is a great achievement not only for the people of Pasighat but also the entire state.

Every develop state or a nation is the upshot of a proper planning in the education sector that sets the ball rolling for overall development. With this remarkable start we can assure our self that our state is heading toward a healthy boulevard which is sure to bring all round development. Many districts of the state are still yet to see the light of education. Lack of efficient means of Education in the state is one of the central factor why our people are still at the backdrop. But the noble approach of the state govt. should not be halted here, lots are still to be done and achieved in various sectors. I wish the decadal increase in literacy rate of the state would shoot up remarkably higher than that of the other times when next census is compiled.

They don’t care anyways

Dear Editor,

I would like to share a few words with my people.

Every day, many different letters are published in different dailies. These letters are people's reaction to the existing defects in the system. People bother to write a letter because they care for the society and the people. But the questions that remains are ''does any of the concerned authority even care what is written?'' The answer is absolute 'NO'. Its truth that these letters touch only the common man and what does a common man do? The answer is rather simple; forgets it in a common way  and I fear general people are adapting themselves to this. Wish I find myself wrong in this regard.
